Enjoy, and feel free to give me any artistic advice, comments, or questions you might have
concerning the works you see here.
The Rock Another one of my older but still pretty new works.
The Great One, the Peoples Champion, the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, slowly pulling off
the infamous elbow-pad as he prepares to layeth the smacketh down on some poor jabroni who was foolish enough to go one
on one with the Great One.....But seriously, I think it turned out pretty good. Had to use alot of glazing to get the look I was
going for. The smoothness doesn't really show up that well in the scan, nore does the technique I used of first doing pencil
crayon then inking over it.
Jeff Hardy Another wrestling inspired work. Think this is
one of my best to date. I'm not really that sure why I like the Hardy Boyz so much, especially Jeff. I mean the Swanton Bomb is a
kick ass move (especially when performed from a 15' ladder through a table), but I don't usually go for the alternative look.
Anyhow, I drew the pose from looking at a pic in a magazine, nothing special. But what makes this different is the way I drew the
face and head. I did a very light outline of the general shape of Jeff's head, then started drawing a wolf-shaped face over that,
added the hair, and shaded lightly. I also positioned the ears differently than I normally do. The way I usually draw the ears
combined with that hair just wouldn't have looked right.
Relaxed female werewolf Part of a vow to try drawing more
females. I didn't even realize the similarities between this peice and the old peice I did for Red Paw untill recently,
although the one of Red Paw came out better.
Spiritual (part 2) For the "Who Am I?" project. Wanted to do
something with a similar theme as the original "Spiritual" peice, but in color, and in a way that represents a part of my
personality....I don't think I really accomplished that. It's got the braids, choker, and cutoffs that I wear, but that's just
external. Truth is I don't perform any rituals like what looks like is going down in this pic. Artistically I think it is ok, but
not my best. The background was rushed. Plus I drew it on computer paper, which didn't exactly help.
Another self-portrait Usually when I draw myself, I intentionally make myself
look goofy, cocky, but I don't express my more serious side that often. It took me about eight tries alone just to get the sketch right. I
felt it was important that it be difficult to tell whether the emotion being expressed by the face and pose is sadness, repressed anger,
lonliness, despaire, confusion, or what. My hope was to have it come across as a little bit of all of those. I ended up using it in my
"Who Am I?" project, and the resulting peice (shown below) was definately my most successful.
Personalized Hell I spent a whole day on the background. I first sketch and inked
three skulls and a single bone, scanned them and B&W line art images and put them on a new blank page. Then I made copies of them and changed
the sizes and orientations of each. I started first by making the bone platform, and then started working on the skulls, copying and pasting the
smallest ones first near the inside of the page, working my way towards the outside gradually with bigger skulls and bones for each progressing
row. I then went over the whole thing with a light shade of red, used the air brush and smudge tools to lay down the colors for the flames in
the background and shape them. After that I pasted the self-portrait there, re-sized it, and went over the whole thing with a few more shades
of red.Lita Lita is one of the few WWF "Divas" I find attractive. Maybe it's because she actually
does matches besides cheesy gimmick matches like "evening gown" or "gravey bowl" matches. Plus she's one of the only female wrestlers/valets that wears
clothes that someone in the real world would wear in public. Having her teamed with the Hardyz was a smart move. I wonder who in creative control thought
it was a smart idea to have her with Essa Rios. I always imagined her as being cat-like, and at first I wanted to draw her as a tigress, but orange and
white with black stripes probably wouldn't have been a good idea with red hair, so I went with a black panther because it provides a good contrast to the
bright colors of the hair, eyes, top, and bikini bottom without clashing too much with the pants and boots. I think using all that blue in the fur was a
bad decision though.Hip-hop Werewolf It's funny that hip-hop is one of my favourite genres of music, yet I
don't do that much art inspired by it. If you look in hip-hop magazines like The Source, there's alot of artwork by people who are into hip-hop culture
that could easily compete with the best work of most were/furry artists, and even surpasses some of it in my opinion. Alot of hip-hop art captures realism
without being over-detailed, and often icorperates elements of graffiti. Acrylic and oils are commonly used, and airbrush and paint programs are becoming
more and more popular. What I was going for here was realism without excess. Maybe next time I should do an animal other than a wolf.
